In a major breakthrough in the fight against insecurity, the pupils and teachers kidnapped from three schools in Oyo State have regained their freedom following a coordinated rescue operation by Nigerian security agencies.

The victims were rescued after months of intelligence gathering and security operations involving the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, and other security agencies.

Reports indicate that the rescue operation was carried out on Friday, leading to the safe release of all the abductees. Several of the suspected terrorists involved in the kidnapping were also reportedly killed during the operation.

The victims were among the 46 people abducted during simultaneous attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, and L.A. Primary School in Ahoro-Esinele, all located in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. The abductees consisted of 39 pupils and seven teachers.

Earlier, the Defence Headquarters disclosed that the kidnappers were identified as members of Boko Haram who had moved into the area. The Minister of Defence also revealed that the terrorists allegedly intended to use the abducted pupils and teachers as bargaining tools to demand the release of some detained terror commanders.

While authorities have yet to release the full details of the rescue mission, the successful operation has been widely welcomed by Nigerians, with many commending the efforts of the country's security agencies.

The incident once again highlights the urgent need for stronger security around schools and continued collaboration among security agencies to protect lives and prevent future attacks.

As investigations continue, more details about the operation are expected to be made public.
