Iyaafin Oluwafunmilayo Adejoke Koleowo Leads Call for Women's Unity at APC Amazons Party Appreciation Day Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Director-General of the Confident Women Development Initiative (CWDI) and APC PROGRESSIVE PROGRESSIVE SUPPORT GROUP (APSG), Iyaafin Oluwafunmilayo Adejoke Koleowo, has called on Nigerian women to embrace unity, mentorship and inclusive leadership as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.

She made the call during the APC Amazons Party Appreciation Day, held at Acquilla Event Hall in Ikorodu, Lagos, where prominent political leaders, government officials, women advocates and party faithful gathered to celebrate the achievements and growing influence of women within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview,Iyaafin Koleowo urged women to support one another instead of creating obstacles to progress. She stressed that true leadership is demonstrated by empowering others and creating opportunities for future generations.

According to her, every woman should strive to become a source of encouragement and inspiration by helping others rise to positions of leadership.

"Be a ladder that lifts others, and let your light shine for those around you, whether they are women, men, boys or girls," she advised.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy, Mrs. Aisha Agbaje Okunade, described the gathering as a timely recognition of the invaluable contributions women continue to make to governance, politics and national development.

She noted that despite the challenges confronting women in politics, they have remained committed to serving their communities and contributing meaningfully to nation-building.

Mrs. Okunade described women as the foundation of every successful society because of their resilience, adaptability and leadership qualities. She encouraged female politicians and aspiring leaders to remain accessible, support one another and open doors for more women to participate in governance.

Also addressing participants, the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate for Lagos State ahead of the 2027 elections, Princess Damilola Sonayon, called on women across Nigeria to remain united and actively participate in the political process.

She said sustainable political success can only be achieved when women work together, support their leaders and engage all stakeholders in building stronger communities and a more prosperous nation.

The newly appointed Commissioner of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Princess Aare Folashade Olabanji-Oba, expressed gratitude to God for her appointment and described the recognition as another opportunity to serve the people of Lagos State.



She congratulated Princess Sonayon on her emergence as the APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, describing her achievement as a major source of inspiration for women across the state.

Princess Olabanji-Oba encouraged Nigerians to remain diligent, committed and hopeful, reminding participants that greatness comes through dedication, hard work and faith in God.

She also urged party members to remain united and continue working towards the progress of the APC and the overall development of Nigeria while encouraging young people to embrace leadership with integrity and responsibility.

In her remarks, Mrs. Olajumoke Benson, wife of Hon. Jimi Benson, commended the leadership of the APC for creating more opportunities for women to participate in governance and decision-making.

She applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other party leaders for promoting inclusive leadership within the party.

Mrs. Benson advised women seeking public office to build themselves around three important values—capacity, commitment and contentment—stressing that competence and integrity remain essential qualities for effective leadership.

Mayor Muyideen Sanwoola, Convener of the APC Amazons in Ikorodu Division, commended the progress of women in politics, noting growth from about 12–15 members in 2021 to over 45 now holding leadership roles such as Supervisory Councillors, Councillors, SLGs, Vice Chairmen, and Chairmen.

He said the achievements were earned through dedication and hard work, not favoritism, adding that the women competed and excelled alongside men. He also praised the APC for empowering women and providing platforms for leadership in governance and public service.

Also speaking, APC aspirant for Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwatoyin Gafaru Bolowotan, praised the determination and resilience of women in Ikorodu, describing them as valuable partners in community development and political advancement.

He encouraged eligible Nigerians to register for their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate actively in the 2027 general elections, noting that every vote will play an important role in shaping the country's future.

Among other dignitaries present at the event were Hon. Awesu Abdulazeez Adekunle of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Patricia Okosudu, Supervisor for Health, Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA, and Hon. Otejo Adebimpe, WAPA Supervisor, Ikorodu Local Government.

The APC Amazons Party Appreciation Day served as a platform to celebrate women's contributions to politics, encourage stronger female participation in leadership and reinforce the importance of unity as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
