AFRIMA 2026: Rema Dominates as He Beats Burna Boy, Davido & Wizkid
Rema was the biggest winner of the night at the AFRIMA 2026 Awards, as the 24-year-old global hitmaker swept major categories, cementing his place at the top of African music.
The “Calm Down” crooner took home three prestigious awards —
Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, Artiste of the Year, and Best African Artiste (Duo or Group) in African RnB/Soul for his smash hit Calm Down.
Rema outshined top Nigerian superstars including Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid and Asake to clinch the highly coveted titles, a moment that marked one of the most defining wins of his career.
While receiving his awards, the singer expressed heartfelt gratitude to his fans and the AFRIMA organizers, stating that their support continues to push him forward.
Despite Rema’s massive triumph, Burna Boy also had a standout moment, winning Album of the Year, while Yemi Alade’s You Are (from “Iyanu: The Animated Series”) earned Best Soundtrack in a Movie, Series or Documentary.
Rising star Shallipopi also shined as his hit Laho won Best Song of the Year and Best Collaboration.
Other notable winners included Jux (Best Male Artiste, Eastern Africa) and Cindy Le Coeur (DRC).
AFRIMA 2026 continues to spotlight African excellence and cultural pride. The event, held at the Eko Hotels & Suites Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, featured electrifying performances from top African artistes and marked Lagos’ third time hosting the prestigious awards.
