Today, family, friends, associates, colleagues and members of his community join in celebrating Mr. Segun Sunmonu-Adams, popularly known as SSA Asiwaju — Asiwaju of Good Tidings, as he marks his birthday.
Born in Anifowoshe, Ikeja, Segun Sunmonu-Adams has over the years established himself as a professional with experience spanning media, advertising, marketing communications, community development, administration and public service.
A Career Built Around Media and Communication
Mr. Sunmonu-Adams is the Managing Director of PERFECT-TOUCH PRODUCTION COMPANY, a company operating in the area of media advertising and marketing communications.
His professional career has also seen him serve as a Senior Media Executive with reputable organisations, including Universal McCann Media and MediaReach OMD Nigeria.
His professional credentials include membership of Nigeria's advertising regulatory and professional bodies, reflecting his longstanding involvement in the country's advertising and media industry.
A Passion for Community Development
Beyond his corporate and professional career, Sunmonu-Adams has demonstrated a strong commitment to grassroots development.
He has participated actively in community development initiatives within the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, including service at the Community Development Committee (CDC) level.
He currently serves as Chairman of ÎLÚPÉJÚ ÓKÉ CDA in the Aseese/Maba area, where he has continued to champion initiatives aimed at improving the welfare and security of residents.
One of his current priorities as CDA Chairman is an initiative to light up the community, with the broader objective of improving visibility, security and the general environment for residents.
Political Experience
His interest in public service has also taken him into politics.
In the 2019 Ogun State Governorship election cycle, Sunmonu-Adams contested for the governorship ticket under the Young Progressives Party (YPP).
Following a keenly contested primary election, he subsequently emerged as the YPP Governorship running mate for the 2019 Ogun State elections.
His political experience has further strengthened his understanding of grassroots mobilisation, leadership and community engagement.
Service to Road Users and Communities
Another notable chapter in his service record was his involvement with LASTMA, where he served as a Mayor and Head of the Berger Unit under LASTMA's control.
Building on that experience, he currently plays an intermediary and administrative role connecting residents, road users and relevant government agencies along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway corridor, particularly the Berger–Mowe–Sagamu axis.
In this capacity, he maintains communication and engagement with agencies and authorities including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), TRACE, LASTMA and the Police, particularly on issues relating to road safety, traffic management, communication and the welfare of road users within the corridor.
Academic Excellence
Academically, Segun Sunmonu-Adams holds a B.Sc. in Mass Communication and a Master's degree in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG), obtained in 2001 and 2003 respectively.
His academic journey also includes a notable achievement at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), where he was recognised as the Best Student in Logic and Scientific Method among the 1990 graduation set.
