DEFECTORS TO ADC: APC REMAINS STRONG AND IN CONTROL
The recent announcement of the defection of nine senators to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has once again demonstrated the evolving dynamics within Nigeria’s opposition politics.
While some commentators attempt to portray this development as a major political shift, the facts clearly show that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) remains firmly in control of the Nigerian Senate.
With 87 senators, APC continues to hold an overwhelming majority in the National Assembly under the leadership of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio. This solid majority ensures that the party remains fully capable of driving legislative policies that support the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Interestingly, the defections have further exposed the deep internal crises and leadership struggles currently facing opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Rather than strengthening the opposition, the movement of these lawmakers to the ADC only further fragments the opposition landscape, leaving them divided across several smaller platforms.
Among the senators involved in the move are notable figures such as Aminu Tambuwal, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye and others who cited internal disputes within their former parties as reasons for their decisions.
For APC supporters across the country, this development once again reinforces the fact that the party remains the most stable and nationally accepted political platform in Nigeria today.
As the nation continues on the path of economic recovery and institutional reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC remains committed to delivering responsible leadership, progressive policies, and sustainable development for all Nigerians.
The APC Progressive Support Group therefore urges Nigerians to remain focused on the bigger picture—supporting policies and leadership that prioritize national progress, unity, and democratic stability.
Nigeria’s democracy remains vibrant, and the APC continues to stand as a pillar of stability within the nation’s political system.
