He built his reputation in political communication, serving as Deputy Chief Press Secretary and later Senior Special Adviser on Media under a former Governor of Ogun State — roles that refined his leadership and messaging skills.

As a trusted strategist, he was appointed Spokesperson for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential campaign, guiding national political communication with clarity and competence.

But his influence goes beyond titles. Showunmi is the founding force behind “The Alternative” Movement, a citizens-driven platform aimed at empowering Nigerians and reviving democratic participation through town hall engagements and grassroots consultations. 

His vision has inspired many — especially the youth — to demand accountable leadership and active civic involvement. Recently, he took a bold step toward shaping the future of his home state by declaring his intention to run for Governor of Ogun State in 2027, driven by a deep sense of service and belief in leadership grounded in integrity, character, and collective progress.
