Davido Withdraws Custody Case Over Daughter Imade After Emotional Court Drama
Popular Nigerian singer and Afrobeats superstar Davido has officially withdrawn his custody lawsuit involving his first daughter, Imade Adeleke, following an emotional and tense court session in Lagos.
The award-winning artiste revealed this through a series of posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he clarified that he never asked for full custody of his daughter. According to him, his intention was only to secure joint custody with Imade’s mother, Sophia Momodu.
“I never asked for full custody… I asked for joint custody,” Davido stated.
He added that continuing the legal battle would have affected Imade the most.
“Nobody won, nobody lost but Imade… so I don’t know why some people are celebrating. There’s nothing to celebrate,” he wrote.
Emotional Court Session at Lagos High Court
The custody dispute reached a turning point during a recent hearing at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba, where Sophia Momodu’s lawyer allegedly mentioned Davido’s late son, Ifeanyi Adeleke.
The reference reportedly deeply affected the singer, who described it as insensitive and unacceptable.
Calling it a “low blow,” Davido said it crossed emotional boundaries.
“I’ve decided to drop the case because… until she brought out her last card! MY DECEASED SON! THAT’S A NO NO! Lowest blow!” he posted.
Davido Slams Opposing Lawyer Over Court Conduct
In another post, Davido criticized Sophia Momodu’s legal team, accusing the opposing lawyer of unprofessional behavior.
He claimed he confronted the lawyer in court and described her as “wicked,” adding that he had “taught her her job.”
Sources also revealed that the judge asked Davido to apologize, but he reportedly declined, saying he could not apologize for defending his late son’s memory.
Background of the Custody Case
Davido filed the custody suit in 2024, seeking joint custody of Imade or unrestricted access to his daughter.
In his affidavit, he stated that he had covered his daughter’s school fees and remained actively involved in her welfare and upbringing.
Public Reaction and Media Attention
The high-profile custody battle between Davido and Sophia Momodu became one of Nigeria’s most discussed celebrity legal disputes, attracting massive attention on social media.
With Davido now withdrawing the case, many believe the decision was made to protect Imade’s emotional well-being and prevent further public controversy.
