Nigerian DJs Temporarily Ban Burna Boy’s Music After Clash with DJ Tunez
In a surprising turn of events in the Nigerian music industry, the Nigerian DJ Association (#NDJ) has announced a temporary ban on all music by Burna Boy following a reported confrontation with DJ Tunez.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday at Obi’s House, a popular weekly Afrobeats gathering in Lagos. Sources say a heated argument between the two escalated into a physical altercation, with members of Burna Boy’s team allegedly joining in before bystanders intervened.
While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, social media speculation suggests the clash may be related to longstanding industry rivalries, particularly DJ Tunez’s close connection with Wizkid, who is frequently compared to Burna Boy by fans.
In a statement posted on Instagram, the NDJ emphasized the importance of unity and respect within the music community:
"No one is born hating another because of skin colour, religion, background, or gender. People learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can also be taught to love. At NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on 'ALL DJs are EQUAL.' We call on all communities to reject prejudice and ensure freedom and equality for every DJ nationwide."
The association concluded by announcing the temporary boycott:
"Burna Boy’s music is temporarily out of all our DJs’ playlists until further notice. Our team will conduct a proper investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez."
This incident highlights the challenges of maintaining professionalism and unity in Nigeria’s fast-growing Afrobeats scene. Music fans nationwide will be watching closely to see how both artists and the DJ community navigate this situation in the coming weeks.
